Toilet
For obvious reasons, the toilet is one of the most frequently used plumbing fixtures in a home. Most houses often include more than one toilet. Toilets are always in demand, and a toilet-related plumbing problem is usually an emergency. If you need helpful suggestions on a do-it-yourself plumbing project, you can ask the expert opinion of your experienced Los Angeles plumber, whose professional plumbing services are offered at a reasonable price.
It might be helpful for you to learn which parts are included in your toilet and how they operate. The toilet handle you press is connected to a chain; pulling on this chain releases the flushing valve at the bottom of the tank. When the valve is opened, it unblocks a small drain hole which allows about 2 gallons of water to rush out of the tank, and into the bowl. When the tank has emptied, the flush valve will return to its place at the bottom of the tank.
The water and waste are actually sucked down the drain by the siphon action in the bowl. This action is created by the speed and amount of water flowing through it. The fall of the filler float is directly related to the fall of water level in the tank. As the float falls, it triggers the refill valve to turn on. The toilet tank and bowl will both fill up from the water supplied by the refill valve. As the tank refills, the float rises; once the float reaches its correct level, the refill valve shuts off. If the refill valve does not turn off, the overflow tube will prevent flooding; this is also located inside the tank.
All of these devices, operating harmoniously, will provide you with a properly functioning toilet.
Still, sometimes things don't work as smoothly as they should, resulting in common problems like clogged, leaking, or overflowing toilets. If you experience these or other difficulties, you should call your Los Angeles plumber for advice on fixing the problem yourself, or you can ask them to provide you with toilet repair services.
You can easily replace your old toilet with a new one, if you follow some simple steps. First, to prevent flooding, you must find the shut off valve next to the toilet and turn it clock-wise until it will turn no further. This will enable you to disconnect the water supply. Remove the water line from the tank; you'll be adding a different line to the new tank later. Before you remove the old tank and bowl, be sure they are emptied of water. You don't want to add mopping to your list of tasks! Remove all the current nuts and bolts with a wrench, and substitute new ones to be affixed to the parts of the new toilet.
