Preventative maintenance entails many methods of do-it-yourself plumbing. In order to decrease chances of future plumbing repairs, there are some basic tips that you can follow. Put strainers over kitchen and bathroom drains, and look out for the materials that should not be thrown into the sink drains or toilets.
Get to know your home plumbing system, especially the locations of your main shutoff valve and the valves located next to the various fixtures. If you find out where the shutoff valves are situated, you can quickly turn them off during an emergency and avoid flooding in your house.
