• What is the vent's contribution to our plumbing system?
There's a vent coming out of every roof. These vents are important because they let out sewer gas from your home. Air must follow liquid, in order for the liquid to go down a pipe. Without vent pipes, drain liquid would suck air from the plumbing fixture traps, and unpleasant odors entering your home would be the unfortunate outcome of this situation.

• What is the way to eliminate garbage disposal odors, and how do I ensure they do not return?
To get rid of smelly odors there are several steps you can take:
1. Plug the sink and begin filling it to its maximal capacity with hot water. Add one or two cups of laundry bleach and a few drops of liquid dish soap, while the water is running. With the sink nearly full, remove the plug to let the water start draining, then turn on the disposal. Let the hot water, soap, and bleach mixture do the work for you.
2. Add approximately half of a box of baking soda to the drain. Add vinegar gradually and keep adding it until you see the foam starts to settle. Turn on both the disposal and the hot water after it ceases to foam. The hot water should be left running for the next 5-10 minutes, while the disposal should only be left on for about a minute.
3. Once in a while you should put a bit of citrus fruit in the disposal while running the hot water.
4. Make sure that you use a garbage disposal cleaner at least once a month.
5. It is very important to ensure that no food is left behind in the disposal.
